Every time we get together with families in San Mateo, we tried different kind of food. This time we visit Silver House, the restaurant that my mom used to like very much. It's on the main street, so if you're lucky you find a parking spot in front of the restaurant, if not there're a few spots in the back alley or you have to park on the street some how. The restaurant is clean and simple, it was a Sunday night so there're quite a few people eating. The chef name Wang came and help us because my sister has been coming here quite often. We ordered quite a few dishes, most of them are Cantonese style dishes, the fried eggplants are our favorite, very crispy and tasty, everyone seems to like it very much. I had a craving for Chow Fun and it was excellent too. Every Chinese restaurant I eat, I always tried the Wor Wonton soup, and this place does have good soup with plenty of meats of all kinds, the wontons are tasty, but the bowls they served are too small to hold all the wontons and soup. My nephews love the shrimp crispy chow mein and it's quite good, but the noodles are not crispy throughout but I think that's the way they cook it. The salt and pepper shrimps are crispy and excellent. The Beef with bitter melon is very delicious, not bitter at all, and great sauce. The eggplant hot pot is quite flavorful. The Kung Pow chicken was gone in second due to being to tasty. I didn't get any peanuts at all that I recalled. The price here is quite reasonable and one thing nice is the service, very attentive and fast. We had some leftover to take home for Monday's lunch and chef Wang actually put some more meats for me. Quite surprising. It was a great lunch for me the next day. Every time we want to go to Chinese restaurant in San Mateo, I always request this Silver House from my sister. It's consistently good.

This is my go-to neighborhood spot for Chinese food. A San Mateo staple that's been here for many years. No frills and always hits the spot! So many dishes to try, so I will definitely be frequenting as long as they're in business.

San Mateo staple! Been coming here since I was in high school and hasn't changed one bit. Sweet and sour pork and chicken, honey walnut prawns, Hong Kong style chow mein -- your typical Chinese restaurant items. You will not leave disappointed. Service is also typical for any Chinese restaurant. Be back soon :)

Our family goes here every occasion- birthday, Mother's Day, Father's Day, you name it! They have delicious food and service is fast! Their staff has been there forever and has they're all kind! When food is cooked, even the kitchen people would not hesitate to bring them to customer's table. Their ambiance is like you're one of the old restaurants in China town. Haven't been to China, so this is the closest I can compare them to. Their cost per plate is reasonable. Averaging $25/p.p. Can't beat that!

I've had this craving for some old fashion beef chow fun with gravy for about a month. My Uncle Joe indulged me and allowed me to take him to lunch there; the Silver House restaurant recommended to me by a friend in the area. We ordered the chow fun, garlic sautéed pea leaf, and salt and pepper chicken wings. You know that taste when you get to eat exactly what you craved? That was our meal. The food was delicious in that comfort food non-fufu way (no California cuisine here). I wish I would always know exactly what I wanted to eat. This was definitely the taste on my palate. Like watching your favorite athlete or sports team dominate, this meal was just right and very satisfying . The waiter was also very good and attentive; he had that I think I know and trust you demeanor. The hometown ambiance of the restaurant was also perfect. Thank you Silver House! You are my go to place in San Mateo! Gene Y.

I have been eating at Silver house for decades and quality is always consistently good . Hard to find parking at peak hours and you don't come here for ambiance . But the food is always delicious and quantity is large . Try to order their specials which are posted on the walls !

This used to be one of the best Cantonese cooking in the area. For months now, the food tastes off. Yesterday, they used tilapia for the fish fillet even though they call it Sea Bass. It was so under-salted that even I (who likes less salt) added more flavor to it. I asked if the chefs changed, and the front desk did not tell the truth. I still like their food, but much less than before.

Been coming here for over 20 years. No soup today and they no longer have the dessert but we always enjoy the food. We love all the salt and pepper items, chicken wings, tofu, and fish. All of these are super good and had to get multiple orders of each for 11 people. Steamed tofu we had to order by showing a picture but we get 2 orders. Was here on a weeknight so it wasn't too busy and we were able to sit and talk for awhile.
